Diddy Final Winners

Diddy Competitors
2013 Junior League Team

Hartlepool Swimming Club Juniors are once again celebrating after winning the Diddy League final at Tynemouth on Sunday 23rd June.  There were over 20 swimmers taking part in 51 races at the event.  The Junior team is the only Hartlepool club to make the final and gain promotion this season.

At the Tynemouth final the club won with 229 points, 16 points clear of rivals Consett.  There were some phenomenal swims from all age groups notching up 21 outright wins.  Some of the team swam in age groups above their age and gave tremendous accounts.  Nathan Dixon 9 years old swam up in the ten years butterfly and won!   William Caldwell-Barr, Nathan and Harry Watts swam particularly well in the 9 year category winning their respective races.  The boys also won the freestyle relay with the help of team mate Joseph Ryder (8 years old).

The 12 year old boys won 5 out of the 6 races they competed in and the whole team of 12 year olds took the overall 12 year old trophy for the final points win.  The team also won the fancy dress competition opting for a St. Trinian’s theme right down to hockey sticks and straw hats!  This is the second time they have achieved this accolade, well done to parents helping out with the costumes.

The older Junior girls and boys also took wins by Katie Laybourn and Callum Reed in the 12 year butterfly, William Lynn in the 12 year freestyle and Jess Williams taking the 12 year girls backstroke and Callum again for the boys.

Junior Coach Andrea Bullock commented that, “All of the team played their part in winning the final.  It was a close call because at the half way point we were down by one point.  All the swimmers proved they are an outstanding team and working together and shouting for each other does play a massive part in winning.  They all deserve this win and we look forward to the new season and the excitement that will bring.  A massive thanks goes to our 12 year olds who are now moving on to the older leagues.  Their support of the younger swimmers has had a huge impact on moral and their support will be a great miss but good luck to them all.”
